Emerald Tutu “Living Shorelines Nursery” Open House – October 21, 2025

The public is invited to join on Tuesday, October 21 (anytime 3:00pm to sunset) for a community open house at the Emerald Tutu’s work site, 172 Condor St, East Boston! *In case of bad weather, the rain date will be Thursday, October 23.

The Emerald Tutu and the Northeastern University Marine Science Center, with funding from the MassBays National Estuary Partnership, have teamed up to build a nursery pilot to grow salt marsh cordgrass (Spartina alterniflora) from local seeds in waste biomass substrates to make pre-

grown, deploy-able living shorelines mats. Join Emerald Tutu lead Gabriel Cira and NU scientist Diana Chin for light refreshments, view the progress of our seedlings, and learn more about salt marshes, urban living shorelines, nature-based infrastructure (NBI), and how the East Boston and partner communities can get involved!

All are welcome.
