The 2025 Gulf of Maine Monitoring & Research Symposium will convene monitoring program coordinators and researchers, data-users and policymakers to:

  • Through a series of lightning talks, learn about ongoing coastal water quality and habitat monitoring programs in the Gulf of Maine.
  • Discover ongoing research efforts that characterize the changing physical and ecological conditions in the Gulf of Maine.

A moderated panel and discussion will engage participants to:

  • Articulate needs for new or re-imagined monitoring and research to document and address changing conditions.
  • Explore opportunities to continue discussion and create collaborations to advance Gulf of Maine research and monitoring programs.

An optional field trip at the close of the Symposium includes a guided tour at the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge on Plum Island in Newburyport, followed by an informal evening meetup on the Merrimack River.

The Gulf of Maine Symposium is hosted by the Massachusetts Bays National Estuary Partnership, the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, and MIT Sea Grant.
